Hello 5th A and B! How are you? (Hola 5to A y B, ¿cómo están?)

 

• This week we are going to work with conjunctions (or connectors). (Esta semana vamos a trabajar con conjunciones o conectores.)
• What are Conjunctions? (¿Qué son las conjunciones?) AND, BUT and BECAUSE (Y, PERO y PORQUE)
• Conjunctions are words that link other words or phrases. (Las conjunciones son palabras que vinculan otras palabras o frases.)

     So, let´s start! Entonces ¡comencemos!

    First, read the examples. (Primero, lean los ejemplos)

Example:

a)   “BUT” expresses contrast.

I like chocolate BUT  I don’t like cream.

I don’t like cream BUT I like chocolate.

 

b)   “AND” expresses addition.

I have got a ruler AND  a pen.

 

c)   “BECAUSE” expresses “for the reason that”.

I like my classmates BECAUSE  they’re friendly

Exercise:  Choose the correct words.

1)    I have got some pencils  AND  / BUT  some folders.

2)    Mary can dance hip hop AND  / BUT she can’t dance rock’n roll.

3)    My sister and I have got two beds in our bedroom  AND  / BUT we haven’t got a sofa.

4)    John likes Science  AND / BUT he doesn’t like sports.

5)    Jennifer and  Jack study English AND / BUT they study French, too.

Exercise: Match the ideas and then write sentences using “because”.
